Bonded Fin Heatsinks
Bonded Fin heat sinks are particularly useful when cooling high power applications with forced convection. Typically custom designed for each application, they allow for a large surface area in a small space and typically reduce thermal resistance by at least 50%.
Manufactured by fixing fabricated or extruded fins to an extruded base, this method of production allows the fins to be placed very close together, giving a fin density far in excess of what can be achieved with an extrusion.
Bonded fin heat sinks can be made in either aluminium or copper and the fins are fixed to the base using either epoxy or soldering / brazing. Copper heat sinks will give improved performance, however there is a significant weight and cost penalty over their aluminium equivalent.
